Wil Lutz's primetime heroics highlight the countdown to Saints kickoff

The New Orleans Saints open up the season against the Arizona Cardinals in 58 days. As we continue our countdown to kickoff, we take stroll down memory lane to a previous season opener again.

Wil Lutz's 58-yard field goal with time expiring sealed a Saints victory over the Houston Texans that they almost let slip away in the last minute. The game feature heroics from Lutz as well as Drew Brees.

The defense put the offense in an uncomfortable situation. Unfortunately, Brees was accustomed to being put in these types of situation. He showed why he was one of the best in the business, and a Lutz delivered with the game on the line.

The end of the matchup between the Saints and Texans was such an emotional rollercoaster. Lutz made two field goals in the final fifty seconds, with the final one giving the Saints an opening game win.

Lutz gave the Saints a six point lead with his first field goal. It forced the Texans to score a touchdown with less than a minute left. It's not impossible, but it also wasn't supposed to take two plays and 13 seconds. The Texans actually missed the extra point to take the lead, but a roughing the kicker penalty gave them a second chance. They didn't make that mistake twice.

Now, it was the Saints with the ball with less than a minute needing points. They only needed a field goal however. Drew Brees put on a masterclass of how to efficiently move the ball down the field.

With just one timeout in his pocket and 37 seconds to go, Brees showed control, accuracy and pacing to move the Saints down the field. His final pass to Ted Ginn seemed to be an audible to take advantage of Houston's off coverage. It got the ball to the 40-yard line to make the field goal just under 60 yards.

I still remember where I was when it was happening. Allow me to date myself but I was in my dorm. When that kick went through the uprights, my friend and I obviously reacted jubilantly. The celebration, however, led to the Resident Assistant coming to the room with a noise complaint. It was an intense ending to a big time game on Monday Night Football. Lutz came up clutch to secure a Saints victory.
