With Indianapolis Colts Training Camp Around the Corner Who Is QB1?

The NFL is on summer vacation until July, when teams report for training camp. The Indianapolis Colts will have one of the bigger stories with Anthony Richardson Sr. and Daniel Jones battling for the QB1 spot. The battle will surely heat up after Jones has placed himself in front during OTAs in May, while AR was hurt once again. In this article, I will break down the position battle thus far and what to look for in training camp coming in July.

With Indianapolis Colts Training Camp Around the Corner Who Is QB1?

Colts OTA’s

During the first OTA practices, it was a dead-even sprint in terms of who was the QB1. Richardson re-aggravates his throwing shoulder with Jones getting all the first-team snaps. He would take advantage of it. In one of the last practices, he would go 3-of-5 passing in 7-on-7 and then 6-of-9 with the full team on the field. He had completions to Michael Pittman Jr. (3), DJ Giddens, Alec Pierce, and AD Mitchell.

In the final period of the day, the Colts simulated a two-minute drill, and Jones got the job done in just a handful of plays, hitting Pierce deep down the right sideline for about 40 or so yards, and then finding Mitchell for a four-yard touchdown just two plays later. Jones has shown that he is capable of making plays and running this offense effectively.

Final Thoughts

The team is currently on summer break before they return to Westfield at Grand Park on July 22 for training camp. This year, it is not for sure who will be starting in certain positions, like QB. It is going to be very interesting seeing how each portion battle plays out during camp. Head Coach Shane Steichen has already stated that practice will look very different from last season. “Last year, we did a walkthrough on day two, right?

There’s a ramp-up period,” Steichen said. “(This year) we’re going to practice on day two. There’ll be different situations, sudden changes in practice. We’ll have live periods with the threes. So, we’re going to do some different things.” Stay tuned to Total Apex Sports for all things Colts for the upcoming season.
