This summer, the Vancouver Canucks have a number of players that are set to become either unrestricted or restricted free agents and one of those is Jett Woo.
For the fourth year in a row, Woo spent the entire season in the American Hockey League and with him set to become a restricted free agent, he's likely pondering what his future is in the Canucks organization.
The Canucks drafted Jett Woo in the second round, 37th overall, in 2018 and he's yet to appear in a game at the NHL level for them, which is probably frustrating for him as he's taken some big strides in his development over the last couple of years.
This week, Woo made a post on social media that was a little cryptic and left many wondering if his time with the Vancouver Canucks organization would be over.
On Instagram, Woo posted a picture of himself from a game in Abbotsford this season with the caption: "Friendships made for a lifetime, thanks for the memories abby! #proudlyabbotsford". Understandably, as mentioned above, this caused some confusion on whether or not he'd be back next season.
"This post on IG from Jett Woo sounds like his time with the @abbycanucks may be over.
He had a good season but got badly injured at the worst possible time and missed the AHL playoffs.
Also probably missed out on a shot with Vancouver's playoff run. #canucks"
Woo must've noticed the stir his post caused on social media, as one fan noticed that he changed the caption, which now reads "thanks for another great year of memories!".
Regardless of the change to his caption, Woo's future with the Canucks organization remains up in the air at this time. There's no doubt that the Canucks would like to re-sign him and will issue him a qualifying offer around the draft, but Woo wants to play in the NHL, he's proved himself at the AHL level. If there's not an opportunity to earn a roster spot in the NHL with Vancouver, it'll be interesting to see what happens and whether or not the two sides start discussing the possibility of a trade.
Woo, a native of Winnipeg, Manitoba, appeared in 62 games this season for the American Hockey League's Abbotsford Canucks where he put up 31 points (seven goals, 24 assists) and 93 penalty minutes.
