The 2024-25 season will be a big one for New York Rangers goaltender Igor Shesterkin.

Shesterkin is set to become an unrestricted free agent next offseason and there has been some speculation on what his next contract extension may look like.

According to the New York Posts’ Mollie Walker, there’s reason to believe that Shesterkin’s camp is aiming for as high as $12 million a year, which would make him the highest paid goalie in the NHL.

It’s unclear if the Rangers and Shesterkin have started negotiating a contract extension and the timeline on a potential deal being struck is still unknown.

If the Rangers decide to wait until next summer, Shesterkin’s play through the 2024-25 campaign will likely dictate the finances of his next contract.

The 28-year-old goaltender is the heart and soul of the Rangers and as of today it’s safe to say the Rangers must meet Shesterkin’s asking price because without him, New York’s Stanley Cup chances would go substantially down.

A lot can change in one year though, so the pressure is on Shesterkin to be at the top of his game not just for the sake of the Rangers, but for himself and his future.

Shesterkin has the opportunity to become the highest paid goalie in NHL history and it’s well deserved based on how much he means to the Rangers.

Most contract negotiations are difficult, but in this case it’s simple. If Shesterkin continues to elevate his game, the Rangers MUST do everything they can to make him happy and ensure that he remains in The Big Apple for years to come.
