We know something they don’t.
Danny is optimistic about his future with Christine.
On the June 18 episode of The Young and the Restless, Danny asked Daniel what he’d think of his old man asking Christine to marry him — again. Danny pointed out that they hadn’t been back together that long. What made Danny think they’d work out this time around? Danny claimed he just knew. So do we. But we have reasons to back up our hunch.
Where We Went Wrong
Once upon a time, Danny (Michael Damian) was a famous rock star. And Christine (Lauralee Bell) — a.ka. Cricket, a.k.a. Chicklet (that was just me; we’re almost the same age, and I was an annoying teen when she was an annoying teen) — was just a kid with a major crush on him.
Then Cricket grew up, and the almost decade age difference between her and Danny faded away. (Especially on a show where Victor [Eric Braeden] once wed Victoria’s [Amelia Heinle] boarding school roommate. Don’t worry if you don’t remember Sabrina. She wasn’t very memorable.)
The newly mature “Christine” and Danny fell in love and got married. They were even happy. Before Phyllis (Michelle Stafford) showed up with wee Daniel in tow, claiming that Danny was the daddy.
Third Party
He wasn’t. But Phyllis kept torturing the pair for years afterwards. Phyllis shouldn’t be a problem moving forward. She’s too busy doing her own thing. All she can manage now is a few swipes Christine’s way that only make Phyllis look pathetic.
But Phyllis dropping out of the equation isn’t why we’re confident that two crazy middle-aged kids can finally make it work this time. This time, we know they’re going to make it because they’ll be off-screen. Marriages are much happier off-screen.
Future Blast
Sure, marriages can also fall apart off-screen. But that only happens when one party returns to Genoa City full-time without the other. Neither Bell nor Damian is interested in a regular Y&R gig. Which means Danny and Christine will be safe to live happily ever after… out of our sight.
