Yankees’ Cody Bellinger going on wing hiatus after food poisoning from room service: ‘I was down bad’

Cody Bellinger was just trying to enjoy watching the national championship game Monday night in his hotel room when he ordered some room-service chicken wings.

“They were good coming in,” Bellinger said Wednesday.

Not so much on the way out.

“I woke up at 4 a.m. sweating and just started throwing up for a few hours,” Bellinger said. “It was a tough morning. … I was down bad.”

Bellinger missed Tuesday’s Yankees game against the Tigers with food poisoning from the wings.

He had ordered traditional, bone-in wings with a side of ranch dressing.

It will be the last time he does that for a while.

“I can say I will not eat wings for five years,” Bellinger said. “I swear. Because the thought of it right now makes me sick.”

A photo circulated on social media Tuesday night claiming to be from Bellinger’s Instagram that he was trying wings again, but it was photoshopped and not real.

Bellinger had suffered through food poisoning once before, back in 2023 during the Cubs’ series in London, so he knew exactly what it was this time around.

But after 24 hours and plenty of hydrating, Bellinger was back in the lineup for Wednesday’s series finale at Comerica Park.

He was actually feeling better enough during Tuesday’s game that he became an option off the bench if needed, though the Yankees did not end up using him.

“I slept a ton [Tuesday] night,” Bellinger said. “My one time before it was 24 hours. So just hydrating and ready to play.”
