The Yankees signed veteran right-hander Anthony DeSclafani to a minor league deal Tuesday and assigned him to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
The 35-year-old last pitched in the majors in 2023 for the Giants, posting a 4.88 ERA across 19 games (18 starts), before undergoing surgery in March of 2024 to repair the flexor tendon in his right arm.
DeSclafani could represent starting depth for a team in need of it.
Swingman Ryan Yarbrough is currently the Yankees fifth starter — with Allan Winans the next man up at Triple-A — after Carlos Carrasco was designated for assignment last week.
Carrasco passed through waivers and accepted an outright assignment to SWB, making his first start Tuesday against Toledo.

The veteran allowed two runs on six hits in 4 2/3 innings, striking out four while walking one batter.
DeSclafani, a Freehold, N.J. native, landed with the Blue Jays in the sixth round of the 2011 draft and made his way to the Marlins in the memorable Josh Johnson blockbuster in 2012.
He debuted with Miami that season before being traded to the Reds.
The righty started 110 games for the Reds — 112 appearances overall — from 2015-2020, going 35-37 with a 4.19 ERA before he enjoyed the best three years of his career with the Giants.
DeSclafani had his best season in 2021, going 3.17 spanning 31 starts for San Francisco, which led to him re-signing with the team on a three-year, $36 million deal.
Carlos Carrasco lost his spot in the rotation.
Ryan Yarbrough has pitched well since taking over for Carrasco.
He appeared in only five games in 2022 and posted a 6.63 ERA due to ankle issues that ultimately led to season-ending surgery.
The Giants later traded him to the Mariners in the Robbie Ray acquisition prior to the 2024 season, and Seattle then shuttled him to the Twins as part of the package for Jorge Polanco.
He did not appear in a game with Minnesota.
DeSclafani is 54-56 with a 4.20 ERA spanning 180 career appearances (169 starts).
