3 cornerbacks Eagles can draft to team with Quinyon Mitchell, Cooper DeJean

It seems like every NFL Draft, Eagles’ general manager Howie Roseman manages to acquire a player even though that specific player should have been off the board sooner than they actually were. We saw it when Jalen Carter fell to the Eagles at No. 9 in 2023, and then also with Jordan Davis at No. 13 in 2022.

Last year, we saw it twice in back-to-back rounds when the Eagles managed to not only snag CB Quinyon Mitchell, but also CB Cooper DeJean in the second round. The 2025 draft is approaching now that it is officially April and we can pretty much expect the Eagles to make a lot of teams angry by acquiring a player that maybe shouldn’t have fallen to the Eagles.

Even though the Eagles have Mitchell and DeJean on very cheap rookie contracts, they can easily bring in another corner or two to pair with them for the future. With Philly already having a tough defensive line to handle, if they can continue to build up their secondary, look out. There are three cornerbacks in this draft that if the Eagles get the chance to draft, they need to do so.

3 cornerback prospects who would be perfect fits with Quinyon Mitchell, Cooper DeJean

CB Jahdae Barron, Texas

We’ll start with a prospect that would be very surprising for the Eagles to take unless Roseman decides to trade up in the first round. Texas cornerback Jahdae Barron would easily be the best corner in this draft if Travis Hunter was not in it. Barron is a huge playmaker who can not only keep a lockdown on receivers, but he can deliver some hits against the run.

He was tied for the second most interceptions in the SEC with five alone. The Eagles would not only gain a ballhawk in Barron, but they can utilize him for a corner blitz if they choose to do so. Again, the only way I see Barron joining the Super Bowl champs is if Roseman trades up in the draft.

CB Azareye’h Thomas, Florida State

Now we start to list prospects that have a great chance at potentially landing right in Philadelphia’s lap at No. 32, or atleast be within a short trading distance with the Eagles don’t have to give up a lot of draft capital. Azareye’h Thomas is a true press corner who can make life difficult right from the snap of the ball. If he can keep a receiver from breaking away, that will make life fun for the Eagles’ defensive line.

He had double digit pass breakups in 2023 (10) which shows that he can stay with his opponent in short and long-yardage situations. Thomas overall looks like the perfect first-round pick for the Eagles.

CB Darien Porter, Iowa State

If the Eagles are willing to take a chance on a corner with high upside, and also a proven track record of being a fantastic special teams player, then look no further than Darien Porter out of Iowa State. First off, he is a bigger corner who can play against contested throws and have the better chance to come down with the ball. Second, he is a perfect rotational player to utilize with Mitchell and DeJean.

The Eagles would be getting a versatile player, who has more experience being on special teams but has so much potential at being a lockdown corner as well. Porter would be worth a second day draft pick.
