New images from the upcoming 9-1-1 and Doctor Odyssey crossover reveal the first look at Angela Bassett’s Athena Grant stepping aboard The Odyssey. The highly anticipated event will see 9-1-1's LAPD sergeant crack a high-stakes case in Ryan Murphy's newest procedural drama. Airing on ABC, Doctor Odyssey's cast of characters is led by Dr. Max Bankman (Joshua Jackson) and his team as they tackle unique medical emergencies aboard a luxury cruise ship. In the crossover episode, set to air on March 26, Athena joins the crew during Casino Week to investigate a heist targeting the ship’s vault.
Now, TV Insider has shared first-look images of 9-1-1's Athena Grant’s time with the Doctor Odyssey crew, teasing a stylish and action-packed adventure ahead. The photos confirm that Athena will be trading in her police uniform for something much more glamorous, donning a red and royal blue off-the-shoulder gown for her undercover work. The images also showcase Max and Athena teaming up at the casino’s gaming tables. Check out the images below:
What This Means For 9-1-1 And Doctor Odyssey
A Stylish Yet Gritty Assignment For Athena Grant
Athena’s presence on The Odyssey carries extra weight given her past trauma aboard a cruise ship. In 9-1-1 season 7, she and her husband Bobby barely survived a harrowing hijacking that left them fighting for their lives at sea. While the newly released images don’t show her visibly shaken, they make it clear that she’s there to do a job, not to mingle. Even in an elegant ball gown, Athena is all business, ready to take charge of the case at hand as Captain Massey (Don Johnson) prepares the Sergeant for Doctor Odyssey's most extravagant theme week.
Joshua Jackson previously described the episode as Doctor Odyssey’s "Ocean’s Eleven moment" (via TVInsider), hinting at a heist-driven storyline with a grand, cinematic feel. Yet, he's no Danny Ocean, as Max appears too familiar with Athena at the casino’s gaming tables before Angela Bassett's 9-1-1 character throws him a sharp look. Used to handling medical emergencies rather than criminal investigations, the Doctor Odyssey crew may find themselves stepping outside their comfort zone as they assist Athena in the investigation—or, at least, try to stay out of her way.
