Now, ABC has released a new trailer teasing 9-1-1 Contagion, a two-part special happening across season 8, episodes 14 and 15. The trailer shows the team responding to a fire in a lab studying "lethal and exotic viruses." Things go awry when two members of the team get trapped inside, including Chimney (Kenneth Choi). Outside, Buck (Oliver Stark) and Athena (Angela Bassett) weigh their options, learning their rescue mission could cause a deadly virus outbreak. Check out the full trailer below:
What 9-1-1's New Trailer Means For Season 8, Episodes 14 & 15
A Deadly Rescue Mission That Could Easily Go Awry
Just like the previous special, specific characters on the team are in a life-or-death situation, forcing everyone else to come together in order to save them. Curiously, Chimney is the one in trouble this time, while his wife had been the victim in the previous two-part special. However, rescuing the team members trapped inside won't be an easy task, as they risk causing an outbreak of a deadly illness if they're not careful. But, if they don't succeed, then they'll be losing team members who won't make it to see 9-1-1 season 9.
As for any ongoing stories, it seems like Buck's concern for his brother-in-law will come first over his continued support of Eddie (Ryan Guzman), who is out in Texas trying to put his family back together. Athena is also shown to be panicked, clearly doing everything in her power to get her team members out of the lab. However, the trailer doesn't indicate what kind of dangers are inside now that a fire has broken out. Since 9-1-1's best episodes often see the team strategizing in unconventional ways, the same will likely be the case as the rescue mission unfolds.
Our Take On 9-1-1 Season 8's Two-Parter Trailer
Will Everyone Make It Out Alive?
With Chimney in trouble and his lengthy tenure on the team, it seems reasonable to assume he'll make it out of this new danger alive. However, since his wife was the subject of the previous two-part special when her life was on the line, he might not get so lucky. Thankfully, the 9-1-1 team has a tendency to get into life-threatening situations and escape unharmed, meaning he might be safe. Whether there are long-term consequences for his rescue, such as an outbreak of a deadly virus, remains to be seen.
