‘9-1-1’s Anirudh Pisharody Shares His Dream Crossover Episodes

On top of diving into Ravi’s backstory, deepening his friendship with Buck (Oliver Stark) and Eddie (Ryan Guzman), and letting his character wear the captain’s hat for a day, Pisharody told Decider that he wouldn’t mind another 9-1-1 crossover episode in the future.

In fact, he already has two shows in mind!

“I love a good crossover episode. I think we need to make more of those have a comeback,” Pisharody told Decider over Zoom before pitching two fellow ABC series.

“Because 9-1-1: Nashville is on the horizon. I would love to see that,” Pisharody explained, shouting out the upcoming 9-1-1 spinoff starring Chris O’Donnell, Jessica Capshaw, LeAnn Rimes, and Kimberly Williams-Paisley.

“I would love to see Ravi go to Tennessee. I think that’d be really, really cool. Given my own Southern upbringing, I think it would be a nice homecoming,” the 9-1-1 star, who grew up in Texas, continued.

9-1-1 fans know that the original series is no stranger to crossovers. In the past, the series has teamed up with The BachelorDoctor Odyssey, and 9-1-1: Lone Star. So it sounds like the 118 could indeed be heading to Tennessee at some point.

“They have a really special event planned for 9-1-1: Nashville, and although we haven’t discussed [crossovers], I think it’s an incredible opportunity that I’m sure at some point we’ll figure out how to capitalize on,” Craig Erwich, president, Disney Television Group told Deadline in a recent interview.

While it may take some time for ABC’s two 9-1-1 series to join forces, Pisharody has a crossover episode backup plan with a far more established series.

“Another show in the ABC universe…9-1-1 is so long running and there’s such a massive universe, I think it’s only natural for us to cross paths with Grey’s Anatomy,” the 31-year-old actor said.

On top of the fact that the two shows are based in different locations, fans of Pisharody’s work know that in 2025, the actor guest starred in Grey’s Anatomy Season 21, Episode 11, which could make a crossover complicated. That said, the medical show holds a special place in Pisharody’s heart, since he was pre-med before he booked 9-1-1. He worked in a bio lab for three years, earned a degree in public health, and even took the MCATs before leaving the career path behind to pursue acting full-time.

“When I made that switch away from trying to become a doctor to becoming an actor, I realized a long time ago that the reason that I wanted to go into the field of medicine was because of things like ER, and House, and even Grey’s Anatomy. I was romanticizing it so much,” the actor told Decider, acknowledging his full-circle Grey’s moment.

Because Pisharody played a college student/friend of a patient on Grey’s Anatomy, not a main doctor, he figures the network could easily pull off a 9-1-1 crossover.

“That’s a different character. He’s gone. The timeline is so convoluted, right? Because that takes place before Ravi becomes a firefighter,” Pisharody explained. “I think that’d be really cool to see something like that. Where they go to a different state or a different place. But I’d be open to anything.”

In seasons past, Decider asked 9-1-1‘s Peter Krause and Ryan Guzman to share their dream crossover episodes as well. Their answers — while admittedly not the easiest ideas to execute — were utterly delightful and offered a rare glimpse into their personal TV tastes.

Krause chuckled and said, “I was going to say Lostbut that’s now off the air.” After getting the green light to follow his heart, however, the actor doubled down on his initial pick, excitedly adding, “We’ll go on another vacation and slip into another dimension into that world.” Sadly, after 9-1-1 killed Krause’s character in a heartbreaking Season 8 twist, we likely won’t see his ambitious throwback crossover become a reality. (Sobbing again!)

Ahead of Season 7’s finale, Decider shared Krause’s response with Guzman and asked him to share the crossover episode of his dreams. Taking Krause’s lead, the 9-1-1 star passionately argued for one of his favorite off-air shows: Scrubs.

“I guess if it doesn’t have to make sense, then I always was a big fan of Scrubs,” Guzman said. “If we could bring back Scrubs — oh my god, that would be incredible. If we could bring back those guys. The whole cast was amazing. So if we could bring back that cast, just for like an episode, that’d be amazing.”

Luckily for Guzman, it looks like Scrubs is returning to TV after all — AND the reboot is coming to ABC! So there’s officially hope that the 118 could meet J.D. (Zach Braff), Turk (Donald Faison), Elliot (Sarah Chalk), Carla (Judy Reyes), and company. Let’s make Guzman’s dream come true, Bill Lawrence!

Looking at ABC’s fall 2025 lineup, Dancing with the StarsHigh PotentialShifting GearsThe Golden Bachelor, and Shark Tank also offer potential in-network crossover opportunities. There’s also Oliver Stark’s dream crossover, Abbott Elementary. And Guzman and the cast have been vocal about wanting to team up with The Rookie, too. So the 9-1-1 crossover possibilities feel endless!
