‘9‑1‑1’ Season 8 Finale “Seismic Shifts” Explained: Closure, Sacrifice — And a New Beginning

9-1-1 ended its Season 8 finale on Thursday with two words fans have dreamt of hearing for weeks: “Hello, Bobby.”

Unfortunately, this wasn’t part of a confirmation that Peter Krause’s character actually faked his death, much to the chagrin of 9-1-1 conspiracy theorists everywhere. No, this heartbreaking line of dialogue was spoken by Athena to Robert “Bobby” Nash Hahn, to whom Maddie gave birth at the end of the emotional hour.

The fact that it was underscored by Joel Ansett’s “Tragedy Is Not the End” only made it more meaningful. Hearing the lyrics “this tragedy is not the end of the story” as Athena greeted a newborn human bearing her husband’s name was almost too much.

Read on for a complete breakdown of where everyone ended up at the end of Season 8, including which characters (yes, plural!) are moving to locations unknown, and which member of the 118 was basically confirmed as the firehouse’s new captain.
