New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers revealed the player he considers the "best" in the NFL today while ranting about football media on "The Pat McAfee Show."
During Wednesday's appearance on the show, Rodgers addressed the narrative surrounding the upcoming NFL playoffs showdown between Baltimore Ravens' dual-threat quarterback Lamar Jackson and Buffalo Bills signal-caller Josh Allen.
The two lead the way in the NFL MVP race, so Rodgers couldn't help but point out how the media would treat the loser of the said match-up. The Jets signal-caller hinted that the losing player would be surrounded by negative buzz that he couldn't lead his team over the hump.
Rodgers then talked about the MVP-caliber season that both Jackson and Allen had, during which he shared his take that the Bills quarterback is the "best player" in the NFL right now.
"Both guys had incredible seasons," Rodgers shared. "Incredible seasons. Josh, until the media—which has a big sway—jumped on the Lamar train, which [expletive], I don’t blame them because he had an incredible season too. But it seemed like it was Josh’s MVP to win; he had a phenomenal season and, arguably, the best player in the league."
Josh Allen has been the MVP favorite for much of the 2024 season, so it's not surprising that Aaron Rodgers has such massive praise for him. Allen recorded 3,731 passing yards and 28 touchdowns against just six interceptions in 17 games. He also had 531 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns on the ground.
With Allen leading the way, the Bills finished the season with a 13-4 record, including wins against the top teams in the AFC and NFC in the Kansas City Chiefs and Detroit Lions, respectively.
As for the NFL playoffs, it will be interesting to see how the media treats whoever loses the Bills-Ravens game. Allen, as Rodgers said, has more than proven himself to be the best player in the NFL, while Jackson is already a two-time MVP and widely considered one of the greatest dual-threat QBs in the history of the game.
