Adam Edström holds immense value for the New York Rangers.
After earning a roster spot out of training camp, Edström really blossomed into his own and etched his mark with the Rangers this past season.
Edström’s speed was on full display while his 6’8’’ frame made him an intimidating physical threat.
From playing 11 games the previous year, Edström suddenly became a consistent link in the Rangers’ lineup as he was a staple on the team’s fourth line.
The 23-year-old’s breakout season was cut short when he sustained a lower-body injury on Feb. 1, which required surgery and kept him out for the remainder of the season.
In 51 games, Edström recorded five goals, four assists, and nine points while averaging 9:16 minutes.
For all of the strides he made, the Rangers rewarded Edström with a two-year, $1.95 million contract extension.
Edström should be a lock to be an everyday kind of player for the Rangers and continue to play a consistent role on the team’s fourth or maybe even third line.
He brings significant upside, given his impressive speed for his size and his ability to play at both ends of the ice.
Last season, Edström showed that he is more than ready for the trials and tribulations that the NHL has to offer. Now, he has a chance to build on his impressive play and further establish himself with the Rangers organization.
