Analyst gives his take on the Canucks' Nils Hoglander trade talks

Patrik Allvin and his management group are looking at ways to improve the roster for the 2024-25 season. If they decide to make a trade, they may be forced to part with a young player or prospect.

Vancouver Canucks forward Nils Hoglander.

One of those young players that has seen his name come up in trade rumours is 23-year-old Nils Hoglander, who had the best season of his career thus far in 2023-24.
The Bocktrask, Sweden native skated in 80 games during the regular season for the Canucks, setting new career highs in goals and points. Hoglander put up 36 points (24 goals, 12 assists), 51 penalty minutes and was a plus-23.
His success this past season impressed a lot of people, and with the Canucks in the market for a top-six forward, if it comes down to a trade, there is a chance that Hoglander could be involved. While the Canucks probably don't want to part with Hoglander, they may instead deal him with one of their top prospects, including Jonathan Lekkerimaki and Tom Willander.
While on Sekeres and Price, Jeff Paterson said that the Canucks should be wary of trading Nils Hoglander given his age, his goal-scoring ability and that he's on a team-friendly contract for one more season at $1.1 million.
"I would be wary of trading a 23-year-old...seventh from his draft class in goals scored...home run of a 2nd-round draft pick...one-year left on a $1.1M team-friendly deal...a nice trade piece." Paterson said.

It'll be interesting to see if anything materializes over the next few weeks and into the summer. Hoglander could be a critical piece of Vancouver's future. Still, if the Canucks have the opportunity to bring in a player like Martin Necas and the Hurricanes want the young Swede in return, then Patrik Allvin should take that deal.
