The New York Rangers fell 2-1 to the Calgary Flames on Tuesday, and after the game, Artemi Panarin had a harsh summary of the game for himself and his teammates.
The 2024/25 season has been a wild ride for the New York Rangers, and after Head Coach Peter Laviolette has drawn plenty of criticism, this is a team that is very unpredictable as we head down the final stretch of the season.
On Tuesday night, the team had the opportunity to pick up two key points in the Eastern Conference Wild Card race on home ice, but unfortunately, they were thoroughly dominated by the Calgary Flames.
Sure, the final score was just 2-1 in favour of the visiting team, but with the shots being 35-13 in favour of Calgary, it was clear that there was just one reason why the Rangers were in this game.
After the demoralizing defeat, Artemi Panarin was asked about the game, and when asked if anyone but Igor Shesterkin showed up on the night, his response was very blunt:
"Uhhh, probably not."
For a team that was in the Eastern Conference Finals a year ago, this simply isn't good enough, and after adding J.T. Miller to this core group, it's expected that they would be even better in 2024/25, but after the team fell apart earlier in the season, it appears they still haven't yet recovered.
Fortunately for New York, they've still got plenty of chances to get themselves into a Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference, but if they put together a team effort like this again, it's safe to say that no other team in the post-season will fear this squad the way they're currently constructed.
