After waiting years for General Hospital supercouple Lucky and Elizabeth to reunite, fans were thrilled when this week, he got down on one knee and asked her to marry him. But the dream scenario quickly turned into a nightmare as Liz rejected the proposal… and Lucky ultimately decided to leave town!
Soon after the episode aired, General Hospital confirmed that Lucky’s portrayer, Jonathan Jackson will be leaving the show, with his last episode expected to air the week of June 9. Between the lack of storyline and disappointing Liz/Lucky “reunion,” viewers on social media made it clear they weren’t happy about Jackson’s all-too-short visit.
“It destroyed Lucky’s character so much,” wrote KatJo on X, adding, “I don’t understand what the point of this even was.”
That was a sentiment repeated over and over as theories as to the reason for Jackson’s departure made the rounds. “He’s been advertising summer concert dates and other projects,” reminded Alicia on our Facebook page. “So I wasn’t really surprised that he wound up leaving again. But I wish they’d given him more to do during the time he was available. What was the point of this return?”
There was, perhaps, one group who saw Jackson’s departure as good news: those who’ve long hoped that Liz might make her way back to a certain leather-wearing, gun-toting ex. As LadyBookWorm117 said on X, “The only way this Lucky and Liz story makes sense is if it was to keep Liz busy but away from Jason as he mourned Sam and moved away from Sonny.” She went on to point out that with Liz and Jason both free, “There’s nothing keeping them apart.”
Others thought this might lead to a reunion between Elizabeth and Ric, although not everyone thought that was such a good idea! “He’ll take advantage of her vulnerability and worm his way back into her life,” Emma speculated on our Facebook page. “And sooner or later, he’ll hurt her again.”
