The Colorado Avalanche announced Thursday that the club has placed right-wing Chris Wagner on waivers.
The 33-year-old has appeared in 12 games with the Avalanche this season, with his lone point coming as a game-opening goal in an eventual 6-3 win versus the Seattle Kraken earlier in November. Wagner skated in Wednesday’s 4-3 victory over the Los Angeles Kings, but was limited to only 4:24 in ice time.
Thursday’s transaction marks the second time this season that Wagner has been placed on waivers. He cleared waivers in early October and was later assigned to the AHL’s Colorado Eagles, where he played a single game with the minor-league affiliate.
Wagner is in his second season with the Colorado franchise, where last year he split time between the NHL and the minors. He notched a pair of points through 13 showings with the Avalanche last season, while in 21 appearances with the Eagles he collected eight goals and six assists for 14 points. Wagner also cleared waivers twice last season, once in January and again in April. The veteran forward signed a one-year extension with the Avalanche in April, meaning he can become an unrestricted free agent next July.
A native of Walpole, Mass., Wagner has appeared in 385 career contests counting stops with the Anaheim Ducks, New York Islanders, and Boston Bruins. He is currently in his second stint with the Avalanche following a 26-game run with the club during the 2015-16 season in which he recorded four goals. In all, over 11 NHL seasons, he has registered 39 goals and 27 assists for 66 points.
A product of the NCAA’s Colgate Raiders, Wagner was selected 122nd overall by the Ducks in the 2010 NHL Draft. Wagner has also played 385 career games at the AHL level, counting stops with the Norfolk Admirals, San Diego Gulls, Providence Bruins, and Eagles.
