Colorado Avalanche goaltender Scott Wedgewood will be sidelined on a day-to-day basis due to an upper-body injury, reports Meghan Angley of Guerilla Sports.
While Wedgewood will travel with the club as it begins its upcoming three-game road trip Tuesday against the Vancouver Canucks, the Avalanche have also recalled netminder Trent Miner from the AHL’s Colorado Eagles.
Acquired from the Central Division rival Nashville Predators in late November, Wedgewood has since made nine appearances with the Avalanche in which he has posted a 5-3-0 record with a .910 save percentage, 2.40 goals-against average, and one shutout. On the season, Wedgewood is 6-5-1 with an .898 save percentage and 2.84 goals-against average.
A veteran of 144 career contests counting stops with the Dallas Stars, Predators, Avalanche, and two tours of duty with both the New Jersey Devils and the former Arizona Coyotes, Wedgewood has compiled a 54-53-23 career record coupled with a .905 save percentage, 2.97 goals-against average, and seven shutouts. The 32-year-old native of Brampton, Ont., was originally chosen 84th overall by the Devils in the 2010 NHL Draft.
Per PuckPedia, Wedgewood is in the first year of a two-year pact that carries a $1.5-million annual average value.
For Miner, the 23-year-old Brandon, Man., native saw two showings with the Avalanche earlier this season, including his first career start coming against the Chicago Blackhawks in early January in which he turned aside 17 shots in a 3-1 road loss. With the Eagles this season, Miner has posted a 9-5-5 record with a .905 save percentage and 2.49 goal-against average. A graduate of the WHL’s Vancouver Giants, Miner was originally chosen by the Avalanche in the seventh round of the 2019 NHL Draft.
Currently riding a two-game win streak, the Avalanche sit 31-21-2 on the season to hold down the second wildcard seed in the Western Conference with 64 points.
