Battle of the Badges: GH’s Chase vs. DAYS’ JJ

Which cop comes out on top?

Armed with guns and tender hearts, we compare Days of Our Lives’ JJ and General Hospital’s Chase.

Protecting Their Loved Ones

Both characters have protected a loved one from a crime they thought said loved one committed. DAYS’ JJ (Casey Moss) is currently investigating the shooting of EJ (Dan Feuerriegel) and he has his suspicions that his love interest Gabi (Cherie Jimenez) could have pulled the trigger. JJ also helped Haley Chen (Thia Meghia) hide from ICE agents.

As a detective with a strong moral compass, Chase (Josh Swickard) often finds himself torn between duty and loyalty to family and friends. In 2021, Finn (Michael Easton) believed he had accidentally killed Peter (Wes Ramsey) after a struggle involving a vial of a deadly toxin. Rather than report the incident, Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst) convinced Finn to cover it up. Together, they hid Peter’s body in the hospital’s sub-basement freezer. Although Chase wasn’t part of the cover-up from the beginning, he eventually learned what had happened. When he found out the truth, he was torn between his duty as a detective and his loyalty to his brother and Elizabeth, both of whom were acting out of desperation and fear.

Locked and Loaded

Both JJ and Chase have had to discharge their firearms in relation to their jobs. JJ shot Theo (Kyler Pettis) responding to a reported break-in. JJ mistakenly believed Theo was a threat because he saw Theo holding a device that resembled a weapon. Acting on that perception, JJ fired his weapon and shot Theo, seriously injuring him. The shooting left Theo paralyzed from the waist down.

This is the most notable instance where Chase shot someone. During a tense confrontation on the docks, Chase shot Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) to protect Nikolas (Marcus Coloma) and Ava (Maura West) from imminent danger. It was a critical moment showcasing Chase’s willingness to act decisively in the line of duty.

From Lock Up to Love

While JJ has never fallen in love with someone he has arrested, as mentioned above, his investigation into EJ’s shooting may have the reverse affect and he may lose the love of Gabi if he ends up arresting her.
