So much for the idea of Rob Gronkowski ending his retirement and joining Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals.
The future Hall of Fame tight end recently popped up in false speculation about his ramping up to play in the NFL again.
Gronkowski shut this down as quickly as he could, telling Fox Sports' Jordan Schultz the following: “Crazy bro. They must know something about me that I don’t. I wish I still had those powers, because that would be cool if I did. But I was just in Australia for a few days. Now it’s time to relax a little. No football.”
Why does this matter for the Bengals?
Last December, Gronkowski revealed that Joe Burrow himself actually reached out to recruit him to the Bengals -- and Gronk thought it was a joke and ignored the messages.
Apparently, Burrow reached out to ask about it after Gronk's public praise for him as the only non-Tom Brady quarterback he would want to play with in the NFL.
Since, Bengals fans have played the what if? game, had Gronk taken the messages from Burrow seriously. Any time rumblings about the star tight end's possible return to the NFL have popped up, Bengals fans have at least raised a collective eyebrow.
