The Cincinnati Bengals are facing tough decisions as they look ahead to the 2025 season, and one name stands out: wide receiver Tee Higgins.
Currently playing on a $21.8 million franchise tag, Higgins has been a crucial piece for the Bengals’ offense, even as they navigate a challenging 4-6 season. However, his time in Cincinnati may be nearing its end.
As the Bengals prioritize long-term deals for stars like quarterback Joe Burrow and potentially wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler revealed that he believes Higgins will be moving on after this season.
“There’s little to no chance Higgins is in Cincinnati beyond 2024,” Fowler stated. “People I’ve talked to feel pretty strongly about that, barring a major surprise. A second franchise tag would cost the Bengals around $26.2 million on a one-year rental. Higgins wanted out of Cincinnati last offseason, and the Bengals will likely allocate resources for a Chase contract.”
So far this season, Higgins has recorded 29 receptions for 341 yards and three touchdowns over five games. His presence on the field adds a much-needed boost to the Bengals’ offense, complementing Chase and providing Burrow with a reliable target.
But with Higgins sidelined by a quadriceps injury the past two games, his absence has been felt in an already inconsistent season.
The Bengals are preparing for a critical Week 11 matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers, and Higgins’ potential return could be a major boost as they fight to keep playoff hopes alive.
For Cincinnati fans, this season may be the last chance to see Higgins in orange and black, with his future likely heading in a different direction next year
