Bethenny Frankel claimed a co-star tried to “sabotage” her before she exited Real Housewives of New York. The star also addressed making “millions more” than her castmates, and she teased that she may recap each episode from the beginning.
After season three, Bethenny left the show to start her own spinoff, Bethenny Ever After. She returned five years later, promoting her Skinny Girl brand in nearly every episode. During her time on the show, critics accused Bethenny of targeting and belittling co-stars for ratings.
“When I was leaving [the show the first time], I already knew I had a spinoff, and [castmates] were starting to turn and they were starting to act negative,” said Bethenny on the Skinny Confidential Him & Her podcast. “One person in particular couldn’t handle it, that I had a spinoff. They were trying to sabotage me and trying to take me down.”
“So now I leave, and now the show is not doing well,” she went on. “So now [the castmates are] individually all reaching out to me, begging me to come back, because it’s more important to them that the product that they’re on succeeds.”
According to Bethenny, her castmates then “accept[ed] their place in society” after Bethenny returned. “I had a prima donna’s multimillion-dollar contract, making millions more than they were each making,” she said.
Around the same time, Bethenny addressed how she used to watch each episode.
“When I was on The Housewives, I would only ever watch the episodes when they would send us the rough cut,” she explained in a March 24 Instagram video. “They wanted you to blog … [The footage] would have like beep[s], it just was very rough. You’d watch it to sort of see if you were alive in the next week. Like, is everyone hating me or liking me? Like, where’s the temperature? How much do I have to brace myself for impact?”
“I’m thinking about going back to the beginning and just recapping each one and telling you what was going on [behind the scenes],” she said. “So this might start today.”
After season 13, the entire cast of Real Housewives of New York was replaced with younger stars.
