There’s a ton of money on the line in Monday's Stanley Cup Final Game 7, but there’s one certain bettor who likely won't be getting a wink of sleep.
That’s because he’s an Edmonton Oilers’ historic comeback away from turning a bonus bet into an epic payday.
The bettor placed the $1,000 bonus bet shortly before the NFL playoffs. He took the Oilers at +1100, the Chiefs to win the Super Bowl at +650 and Real Madrid to win the UEFA Champions League at +550. The parlay pays out $584k.
Playing it (somewhat) safe, the bettor hedged prior to the series, locking in a six-figure win no matter the outcome. However, there’s a significant difference in the potential payouts. The bettor still believed in the Oilers in a major way heading into the series, and an Edmonton win will net him $410K.
So, you can only imagine the range of emotions he’s felt over the course of the Stanley Cup Final.
Watching the Florida Panthers race out to a 3-0 series lead couldn’t possibly be more deflating. Teams up 3-0 in an NHL playoff series are 206-4 all time. A team has taken a 3-0 lead in the Stanley Cup Final 28 times, and the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1942 were the only team to rally to win the title.
Yet here we are, 82 years later, with the Oilers a win away from joining them.
