Bills Announce Key Coaching Staff Hires

The coaching carousel has come and gone with most teams plugging their vacancies whether at the top at the head coach spot or in ancillary roles. Monday, the Buffalo Bills made their own mini splash with the announcement of four new hires.

Bills Announce Key Coaching Staff Hires

Chris Tabor headlines this group with the team announcing him as their new special teams coordinator. Tabor was out of the league in 2024 following a stint with the Carolina Panthers that saw him become the interim head coach in 2023.

Tabor had previous stops with the Chicago Bears and Cleveland Browns.

The Bills are also bringing on former Jacksonville Jaguars defensive coordinator Ryan Nielsen as a senior defensive assistant. While taking a different role in Buffalo, Nielsen brings in an impressive body of work from recent seasons.

Nielsen served as the Atlanta Falcons defensive coordinator and defensive line coach in 2023, following an extended stint with the New Orleans Saints from 2017 to 2022. He will look to bring some change to a Bills defense that finished around the middle of the league in sacks.

Presumably helping Nielsen will be newly hired assistant defensive line coach Jason Rebrovich who spent last season with the Green Bay Packers. His defense finished top 10 in the league in sacks with 45.

Mike Pellegrino is the final Buffalo hire, joining the staff as the nickels coach. He comes over from the AFC rival New England Patriots after spending nearly a decade with the franchise.

It is a sweeping series of moves for the Bills who look to improve on the defensive side from where they were this past season. McDermott will still oversee things in that area, but gets a shakeup with some new faces joining his staff.

As the coaching staff shifts from last season, the Bills still face some questions in regard to their roster. Namely, Buffalo has significant cap space tied up in veteran Von Miller's contract and they could look to reexamine that deal heading into 2025.

McDermott and the Bills' offseason journey continues this week as they evaluate potential draft prospects at this week's NFL Combine.
