Bills’ ‘Ideal’ First-Round Pick Revealed As Amari Replacement

The Buffalo Bills have one of the best offenses in football, and one could say they have upgraded one of the receiver positions with Josh Palmer coming in to provide some home-run speed.

With Amari Cooper and Mack Hollins leaving in free agency, one spot in the receiver room still needs to be filled. With Khalil Shakir, Keon Coleman, Curtis Samuel, and Palmer, for most, that isn't enough talent to put around Josh Allen.

Hence, some have the Bills taking a receiver in the upcoming draft, but where exactly is unknown given the clear defensive needs.

But for NFL.com's Chad Reuter, the Bills' "ideal" first-round pick is Texas speedster Matthew Golden.

"The Bills traded down in last year's first round, allowing the Chiefs to grab speedy receiver Xavier Worthy," Reuter writes. "This year, Buffalo could make its own move for a Texas receiver; Golden's speed and ability to win contested catches downfield would make up for the loss of Mack Hollins in free agency."

Armed with 4.29 speed, Josh Allen is another home-run threat on offense, and the unit would now boast some serious juice.

While Golden's numbers weren't big for Texas last year (987 yards, nine touchdowns), he had an uncanny knack of making big plays at big times, with his ability to turn throws that aren't on target, into completions likely a factor in Buffalo selecting him here given Allen's scrambling ability.

Golden is also a physical receiver and has a habit of reeling in contested catches, so he isn't just a speed burner.

Add him to Joe Brady's offense, and for MVP-winner Allen, that could be a match made in heaven.
