The Buffalo Bills could have been forgiven for basking in the glory of their 30-21 win over the Kansas City Chiefs that snapped Andy Reid's team's undefeated start to the year.
With the Bills now hot on the heels of the Chiefs for the No. 1 seed in the AFC, maybe the result carries a little bit more weight, not only due to the playoff ramifications but also the mental aspect of slaying a heavyweight team.
But offensive coordinator Joe Brady gave an insight into the team's mentality this season when asked if the win over Kansas City meant more than others.
“I always love a win going into bye no matter what, that's always refreshing,” Brady said. “We try to preach the consistency and that they all count the same and that's our focus, is trying to score one more point than the opposing team. If we can go 1-0 each week, good things are going to happen. It was an incredible environment [in Buffalo], but the end of the day, they all count the same, and all we're trying to do is just go 1-0.”
That is a good mindset to have, but you will be hard-pressed to find any of Bills Mafia who didn't put extra weight into their team slaying the Chiefs.
Given how Kansas City has had Buffalo's number in the postseason, and the Bills have a better record against Patrick Mahomes in the regular season, it was almost a sure thing that Buffalo would topple the Chiefs.
Now, with the bye week to rest and consolidate their work, the Bills can attack the rest of the season with that same mindset that has fueled them to a 9-2 record.
But as far as not putting any more weight into beating Kansas City - color us skeptical.
