The 2023-24 season went well for Boston University defenseman Ryan Greene. He likely would have enjoyed it more had BU made it to the National Championship. It was at the very least a Frozen Four appearance.
The one thing that folks can bank on is that he is ready for a big junior year with the Terriers.
“I had a really good year,” Greene said of his sophomore year at BU. “Great, close group of guys this year made it a lot of fun. I thought we had a pretty successful season making it back to the Frozen Four. Fell short but still proud of the improvements that I made and the guys I was with and how far we made it.”
Although Greene isn’t on the top of anyone’s list when it comes to Chicago Blackhawks prospects, he had a big year in college which turned some heads. His 12 goals and 24 assists (36 points) in 40 games played for BU are no joke. He played a huge role in this team going where they did.
Now, with a leader like Lane Hutson leaving BU for the NHL, Greene must be ready to carry that momentum into his junior year if he wants that entry-level deal. Leadership and rounding out his offensive game seem to be his main focus right now.
“Being an older guy like I said earlier, allows me to be in a role where I have high influence on my teammates and I can lead, whether vocally or by example. That’s something I’m excited to do. I’ve had great captains in the past and I’ve learned a lot from the older guys. To be in that position now, it’s something you want to take pride in and be a good role model for the younger guys.
For me, I think I was able to round out my offensive game more than I had in my freshman year. I was relied on a lot more this year as a sophomore and played in pretty much every situation this year for my team. Getting experience like that to be put out there in those situations was something I was able to learn from and grow from.”
Ryan Greene Readying For a Shot With the Blackhawks
While there is certainly a glut of talent down the middle, Ryan Greene has shown that he can more than hold his own. Of course, Connor Bedard is the franchise centerpiece but it is beyond him. Players like Frank Nazar, Oliver Moore, and Sacha Boisvert are all ranked higher. Greene just has to work extra hard to become noticeable with the management staff.
If he can go to Boston University this year and dominate, that entry-level deal is likely to be offered as it was for Nazar. Greene will have to force the Blackhawks hand a bit, but his numbers this year showed what potential is there.
Building on it would make it a no-brainer for the Blackhawks.
