Michael Callahan practiced with the Boston Bruins on Monday and has a chance to play Tuesday night against the Minnesota Wild — three days after a puck to the face ended his afternoon early.
The defenseman was on the ice for just 5:49 in Saturday’s win against the New York Rangers. The puck bounced off a stick and caught Callahan in the jaw.
“Lost a couple teeth and some stitches on the lip,” Callahan told reporters after Monday’s practice. “But other than that, not too bad.”
Callahan isn’t a stranger to losing teeth. During his with Providence College, the Franklin native lost a tooth during a game. The 25-year-old lost three more on Saturday.
“So now I’m missing four from the bottom. Not a new experience, I guess,” Callahan said.
Callahan revealed he’d have to get work done during the NHL 4 Nations Face-Off two-week break. Because additional dental work is needed for Callahan, he needs to play with a full-face shield.
“I’ve never worn the clear cage before,” he said. “But it was good today. Didn’t have any issues with it, so should be fine.”
Bruins interim coach Joe Sacco said he doesn’t believe there’s any medical issues that would prevent Callahan from playing Tuesday, but hadn’t finalized his lineup for Tuesday’s game.
