Brandon Staley has invested heavily in the secondary since becoming the New Orleans Saints defensive coordinator. Per CBS Sports' Matt Zenitz, the Saints just hired Grady Brown. This is the third coaching acquisition made with a history in the defensive backfield.
The Saints also hired Terry Joseph to be the passing game coordinator after years as the Texas secondary coach. Robert Blanton was brought in after being the Miami (Ohio) safeties coach.
Brown was the Pittsburgh Steelers' defensive backs coach for four seasons before parting ways. While in Pittsburgh, he oversaw the development of Joey Porter Jr. and helped Donte Jackson reach a career-high in interceptions this past season.
Neither Brown nor Blanton has an official title at the moment. There is a chance New Orleans could divide the secondary into safeties and cornerbacks coaches.
If that were the case, it would make sense for Blanton to coach the safeties. It's the role he occupied at Miami. Then, Brown would slot in as the cornerbacks coach.
Roles have yet to be cemented, but there seems to be an emphasis on coaching in the secondary.
