The New York Jets announced that quarterback Jordan Travis has decided to retire from football. Travis was selected by the Jets in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft, but he never appeared in a game after sustaining a serious leg injury in his final college appearance at Florida State. Despite a lengthy rehab process, he was ultimately advised to step away from the game for medical reasons.
Travis was drafted with the 171st overall pick after a standout career at Florida State. In 2023, he completed 63.9 percent of his passes with 20 touchdowns and 2 interceptions, leading the Seminoles to an 11-0 start. He finished fifth in the Heisman Trophy voting and was widely recognized for his production and leadership during his time in Tallahassee.
The leg injury occurred on November 18, 2023, in a game against North Alabama. He joined the Jets the following spring and participated in rookie minicamp in a limited capacity while continuing to rehab. Travis was placed on the Non-Football Injury list in July 2024 and later moved to the reserve/not-football list in August.
Jets General Manager Darren Mougey acknowledged Travis’s decision and expressed support, stating that it was unfortunate he could not return to the field after working so hard through the recovery process.
Travis finishes his college career with 10,665 total yards and 99 total touchdowns, both school records at Florida State. He started 38 games for the Seminoles, finishing with a 28-10 record, and became the first quarterback in school history to record three wins over Miami.
The full statement from Jordan Travis and the team is available in the official New York Jets release.
