One of the questions that has been on the minds of Sabres faithful is where their offensive firepower will come from. Currently they have three left wingers on the roster. Here is a breakdown of the three forwards that should factor highly into the Sabres plans next season.
1) Zach Benson: The 19-year-old made his rookie season a memorable one. In 71 games he hit on 11 goals and 19 assists. He also added 35 hits and 35 blocks on the season. He should be a candidate for a big-time season in the 2024/2025 year. Biggest attribute to Buffalo: Upside in his second year.
2) Jordan Greenway: After the in-season trade two years ago, Greenway has established himself. Outside of 28 goals, he has become a physical presence. He has a plus/minus ice time of 11. He also had 141 hits on the year. Nine of his 10 goals came when the Sabres were at even strength. Biggest attribute to Buffalo: Leadership and physicality on and off the ice.
3) Jason Zucker: The free agent signing is coming in from Nashville. Last season he had two assists during the Predator's postseason series against the Vancouver Canucks. Before his time In Nashville, he was longtime forward with the Minnesota Wild. He scored over 100 goals during his career in Minnesota. Biggest attribute to Buffalo: Playoff experience.
All three will be important pieces in different ways. But the diversity up and down the roster and on the ice will be important for a team looking to find a new identity. Lindy Ruff in the past was known to get the best out of a physical, young and diverse roster. If he can do it again these three will be a key to the end of the playoff drought.
