Bronwyn Newport is standing by her man.
In an exclusive interview with Page Six’s “Virtual Reali-Tea,” the “Real Housewives of Salt Lake City” star defends her marriage to husband Todd Bradley amid backlash over his behavior during a tense scene on the hit Bravo show.
“Todd and I are super happy and stable and totally great, so I don’t know that I need to clarify [anything],” the reality TV rookie, 39, says.
Bronwyn Newport tells Page Six’s “Virtual Reali-Tea” that her marriage to husband Todd Bradley is in a “stable” place after a recent spat played out on “The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City.”
In a tense moment, Bradley shut down a conversation about Bronwyn, her daughter, Gwen, and the latter’s late father.
“I guess I would say, I think in a really longterm, serious, stable relationship like we have … you show up [in] different ways [for] your partner.”
In the Nov. 13 episode of “RHOSLC” — during which Bradley and Newport hosted a cast trip to Palm Springs, Calif., for the couple’s anniversary — the businessman sternly shut down a burgeoning conversation about his wife’s daughter, Gwen, 18, and the latter’s late father.
The topic came up during a group dinner because Lisa Barlow previously shared on camera that she is good friends with the family of Gwen’s biological dad — who did not maintain a relationship with his child — and Angie Katsanevas innocently inquired about the development, not knowing it was a sensitive subject.
The scene took place during a cast trip to Palm Springs, Calif., during which the couple were celebrating their anniversary.
The couple tied the knot eight years ago.
“This is not going to happen. This is over. Done. Done, ” Bradley asserted before adding elsewhere, “You know it’s just going to piss me off, so let’s stay away from it.”
In an ensuing confessional, Newport admitted that her spouse’s reaction — during which he cut off her own comments on the matter — made her uncomfortable.
“I was worried the ladies were going to embarrass me. It’s Todd who embarrasses me in this moment — as much as I love him,” she told the camera. “There is definitely a dynamic around anger and frustration that Todd and I handle differently. Todd has a very specific stopping point and there is no going past that.”
In his own confessional, Bradley — who married Newport eight years ago — explained that he was coming from a place of wanting to protect his loved ones.
Newport (second from right) made her reality TV debut in “RHOSLC” Season 5.
She entered the group as a friend of OG cast member Lisa Barlow (far right), though the women ended up clashing during production.
“I’m not going to have this discussion at a dinner table to celebrate our anniversary. It’s a personal issue for Gwen and Bronwyn,” he said.
“Me, as a supporter of both of them, it’s no one’s business to discuss at a dinner table. Frankly, it wasn’t Lisa’s business to bring it up to begin with.”
Though a vocal portion of viewers were critical of Bradley’s seeming attempt to silence Newport, the first-season “Housewife” doesn’t fault him for wanting to squash onscreen dialogue that could have had a negative impact on Gwen — no matter the response from the “RHOSLC” ladies or the fandom at large.
Despite any criticism, Newport appreciates that Bradley wanted to safeguard her and Gwen when the sensitive subject came up.
She has described her spouse as “lovingly protective.”
“I kind of played this role of, like, skittery, scattery, trying to fix it,” she says, recalling how she handled the situation in opposition to Bradley — whom she has described as “lovingly protective.”
“And Todd was willing in that moment to [be like], ‘I don’t care if people like me or not. We are not doing this. I care about Bronwyn, I care about Gwen and this is going nowhere good for either of them.’”
