Bronwyn Newport Mourns Death of 'Wonderful' Father After Sudden Fall

Bronwyn Newport is grieving the loss of her father, David Richard Newport, who died on Friday, June 13 following a sudden fall and a rapid series of health complications.

The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star, 39, shared the sad news in an emotional post on her Instagram Story.

"Earlier today we lost my wonderful father, David Richard Newport," she wrote, over a black and white photo of her father.

As Bravo fans know, Bronwyn has previously revealed on social media that her David had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease and was living in a memory care facility. She explained in her post on Friday that her father fell on Tuesday, June 10, and quickly declined from there.

"Yesterday, we were told he most likely only had a few days," Bronwyn wrote. "It has been a huge shock to lose someone seemingly so suddenly that yet we've been caretaking through such a long illness."

While difficult, Bronwyn noted she was thankful to have been by David's side during his final days. "I am so grateful to have been able to be by his bedside all week and in his final moments to help both him and my mom," she said. "I'm grateful we had some idea what was happening toward the end so much of our family could gather to be with him."

She concluded the message by saying her family is now "processing this profound loss," and added that it was her mother who encouraged her to share the news publicly. “She wanted me to share so those who knew and loved him could think fondly of him at this time,” Bronwyn wrote.

No further details about funeral plans or memorials have been shared at this time.

It's been a tough few months for Bronwyn. In February, she announced the death of her 9-year-old dog, Claire,

She's mourned that loss while balancing the challenges her father was experiencing. Back in December 2024, she spoke candidly about his health, explaining he was "up and down" after taking another fall. Then in April, she revealed that an Easter family visit "just didn't go well" due to his symptoms.

"My dad has been doing so great in memory care, but this week he hasn't been himself," she wrote on her Instagram Story, explaining it had been a very "emotional day."

David is survived by his wife, Bronwyn's mother, who is also experiencing her own health troubles. Bronwyn spent Christmas 2024 in the ICU with her mom after the now-widow — who lives in California — underwent emergency brain surgery for a tumor found in the back of her skull (an "almost identical location" where doctors had found a tumor nearly 30 years prior).

"I spent all afternoon with her in the ER, and then Christmas Eve too," Bronwyn said. "I went home that night to be with my dad and one of his wonderful caregivers. Thank goodness you can get pizza delivery for three delivered on Christmas Eve night!"

At the time, she credited her mother’s lifelong example of compassion and service for shaping her own approach to caregiving, saying: "I was raised by the best," Newport wrote. "My mom has always been the ultimate example of compassion and service to others. My whole life I have watched and been dragged along and eventually learned to participate and enjoy serving alongside her."

Bronwyn joined RHOSLC in season 5. Season 6 is expected to premiere later this year.
