Bruins Get Huge Matt Grzelcyk Update

Matt Grzelcyk's future in Boston is continuing to become more apparent.

The Boston Bruins have several free agents heading into the 2024 NHL Offseason. We have now been given a big update regarding one of them - Matt Grzelcyk.

In a recent article for The Athletic, Chris Johnston made it abundantly clear that Grzelcyk's time in Boston is ending. Here is what the NHL insider had to say on the matter:

"The kid who grew up just over the bridge from TD Garden and became a Bruin needs to look elsewhere for his next payday."

It's not surprising to hear that Grzelcyk won't be back next season. He lost his permanent spot on the Bruins' blueline during the postseason, being scratched in 10 of the club's 13 playoff games. He also did not touch the ice once in their series against the Florida Panthers.

Grzelcyk, 30, struggled this regular season, posting two goals and nine assists in 63 games. It was a significant drop-off from his four goals, 26 points, and plus-46 rating in 75 games during the 2022-23 season.

While Grzelcyk had a down year, there is no question that he will generate interest in free agency. He can handle top-four minutes and provide some offense from the point when playing at his best. It will be intriguing to see where he ends up landing this summer from here.
