Bruins Have Intriguing Target in Former Top Prospect

The Bruins should take a chance on this former top prospect.

The Boston Bruins' lineup heading into the 2024-25 season looks pretty good. They finally added their first-line center in Elias Lindholm and improved their top four by signing Nikita Zadorov. However, they also lost multiple wingers and could use more forward depth before the start of the season because of it.

With Jeremy Swayman still needing his new contract, the Bruins will likely need to settle for bargain players if they hope to add to their forward group. Filip Zadina stands out among the remaining free agents still available for the taking.

Zadina, 24, is a former top prospect who was selected sixth overall by the Detroit Red Wings in 2018. He was never able to blossom into the top-six forward that many believed he would, but he could still be a decent option for the Bruins to sign to a cheap, one-year deal.

Zadina has the potential to provide some depth scoring when inserted into the lineup. During this past season with the San Jose Sharks, he recorded 13 goals and 23 points in 72 games. Perhaps joining a Bruins team with better offensive weapons to work with could help Zadina's production go up more. We have seen this from newcomers before, with Pavel Zacha being a notable example.

If the Bruins signed Zadina, he would give them another option to consider for their NHL roster next season. In addition, when noting that he is still only 24 years old, it is still possible for him to take another step forward in his development. Due to this, he could be worth taking a chance on as a low-risk signing.
