Kim Burgess and Adam Ruzek finally got married in the season 12 finale of Chicago P.D.
The couple has been engaged multiple times over the years, but they always seemed to face obstacles that delayed their nuptials. In the finale, Burgess and Ruzek were ready to postpone their wedding once again due to the ongoing investigation into Burgess’s actions. However, after Voight managed to get Deputy Chief Reid off their backs, the couple decided to go through with the ceremony.
The wedding took place in a church, with all of their colleagues from the Intelligence Unit in attendance. Burgess wore a beautiful, understated wedding dress that suited her character perfectly. Marina Squerciati, who plays Burgess, shared some behind-the-scenes details about the wedding in an interview.
She revealed that she had just given birth before filming the scene and wished she could have worn the dress at a time when she wasn’t pregnant or postpartum.
Burzek finally tie the knot
Squerciati also mentioned that the director had to remind her to smile during the wedding scene, as the show rarely allows the characters to express joy.
She joked that smiling had been “taught out of her” on the series. The actress expressed a bit of disappointment that the couple’s vows weren’t shown on screen and that there wasn’t a reception or party after the ceremony. However, she acknowledged that such scenes might not fit the show’s vibe.
When asked about Burgess’s reaction to Voight’s confession about Reid’s death, Squerciati said her character likely suspects the truth but may not want to delve too deeply into it. She noted that Burgess has a unique stance, not being fully loyal to Voight but also not having a strict moral compass like some other characters. Overall, the Burzek wedding was a long-awaited moment for fans of the couple, even if it didn’t include all the traditional elements of a TV wedding.
The actors and crew worked hard to make the scene special, despite the challenges of filming during Squerciati’s postpartum period.
