Burzek Is in Danger in New 'Chicago P.D.' Season 12, Episode 20

We can almost hear the wedding bells for Chicago P.D.'s fan-favorite couple, Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati) and Adam Ruzek (Patrick Flueger). It's been confirmed that the Season 12 finale will host the much-anticipated Burzek wedding. But it wouldn't be Chicago P.D. if there wasn't some form of turbulence on this ship in the lead-up to the big event. In the upcoming Season 12, Episode 20, titled "Black Ice," Ruzek will find himself in danger after making a desperate solo response to a sinister case that will be Intelligence's next focus. Following an earlier released teaser, NBC has released a new batch of images that hint at an episode that will tug at our heartstrings.

As the logline reveals, “Ruzek witnesses a tragic accident on an icy bridge, leading Intelligence into a dark, sinister case involving sex trafficking.” Burzek has always been more than just a romantic pairing, but a powerhouse professional duo. Fans most recently saw their work dynamic in the “Seen and Unseen” episode, where Ruzek helped Kim tap into her memory to crack a complex massacre case. The upcoming episode will spotlight the pair once again. Newly released images show the couple working side by side in multiple scenes, reinforcing just how deeply they rely on each other in and out of the field. However, unlike that past episode, this next case will pose great danger to the beloved couple, as teased in a gut-wrenching moment from the teaser, where Ruzek is trapped with a suspect who overpowers him, with Kim locked just outside, unable to intervene. Hopefully, the duo emerge unscathed as they push through yet another harrowing ordeal together.

Will Dante and Cook Pick Up the Will-they-Won't-They Dynamic From Burzek?

With Season 12 to close-out on a high-note with the Burzek wedding, the stage may be set for a new potential romance within the Intelligence Unit. It appears the show is already planting the seeds for another slow-burn pairing with Kim Cook (Toya Turner) and Dante Torres (Benjamin Levy Aguilar). There’s undeniable chemistry between the two, and Turner herself has teased the possibility of something more between them. “I think you’ll see the relationship I have with Torres become warmer after this episode. I feel like we’re becoming closer than we were,” she recently said in an interview.

And who knows? They might just end up as each other’s date for the Burzek wedding. “I will say there is something in the season finale,” Turner added, keeping fans guessing. And maybe, just maybe, Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) could make ASA Nina Chapman (Sara Bues) his plus-one? Fingers crossed. Check out the newly released images above and get ready for Chicago P.D.’s “Black Ice,” premiering May 7 on NBC.
