The Philadelphia Eagles locked in center Cam Jurgens through 2029 on Monday, signing him to a four-year extension worth $68 million.
"Pro-Bowl center Cam Jurgens and the Eagles reached agreement today on a four-year, $68 million extension that includes $39.4 million guaranteed that contractually ties him to Philadelphia through the 2029 season, per the team and his agent Ryan Tollner at @excelfootball," Schefter writes on X/Twitter.
His new deal now makes him the second-highest average annual salary among NFL centers.
“It feels kind of surreal,” Jurgens told reporters soon after putting pen to paper on his new deal. “I feel like I’ve been playing football for as long as I can remember and getting to a point like this, this is life changing, it’s just crazy.”
Jurgens has a lot more money to spend, and while he doesn't plan on going crazy with it, he does have one thing in mind.
“You know I haven’t given it too much thought,” he said. “I feel like I fly a lot, so I might look into this thing called TSA pre-check. I feel like that sounds like it’s a good idea. I’m kind of tired of waiting in lines. I think I can afford that ... and see if I can get that done.”
The Eagles' former 2022 second-round pick had some big shoes to fill after having to follow in the footsteps of Jason Kelce.
And he filled them perfectly right out of the gate. Notably, over the first four weeks of the 2024 season, Jurgens did not allow a single sack and allowed just five pressures across 156 pass-blocking snaps, demonstrating his consistency and dependability in pass protection. He was also a key reason for Saquon Barkley’s impressive 2,005 rushing-yard season.
Several critics questioned Jurgens' ability to take Kelce's place last fall, but those concerns have largely faded thanks to his strong performance.
