Canadiens: Fowler Will Stay Put

Montreal Canadiens GM Kent Hughes enquired about the asking price on Yaroslav Askarov but he wasn't ready to pay it.

On BPM Sports yesterday morning, Pierre LeBrun explained why Montreal Canadiens GM Kent Hughes backed away from the Yaroslav Askarov derby. According to the RDS and TSN insider, Hughes did speak to Barry Trotz about a possible trade, but the Nashville Predators GM wasn't ready to entertain an offer that didn't include goaltender Jacob Fowler.

Speaking to Georges Laraque and Stéphane Gonzalez on the airwaves, LeBrun added there was just no way the Canadiens were trading the netminder. Fowler was the Habs' third-round pick at the 2023 draft and he had a great first season in the NCAA leading Boston College all the way to the final of the Frozen Four, falling at the last hurdle.

He played 39 games during the regular season, posted three shutouts while keeping a 2.14 goal-against average and a .926 save percentage. Many believe Fowler is the goaltender of the future for the Canadiens and Hughes not being open to move him sure seem to suggest they are on to something.
