Catelynn & Tyler Call Out Carly’s Adoptive Parents — Their Only Goal Was to Get a Baby!

Catelynn Lowell and Tyler Baltierra did not hold back during the most-recent episode of their podcast— striking out at the parents of their biological daughter Carly for seemingly saying whatever they needed to say to get the Teen Mom stars to allow them to adopt Carly after her 2009 birth.

During the latest episode of their PodcastOne podcast, Cate & Ty Break It Down!, Catelynn and Tyler spoke out about how Carly’s parents— Brandon and Teresa Davis— were willing to change their initial adoption terms in order to ensure they could adopt Carly.

“I think the whole goal was to get a baby,” Tyler said, adding, “We were kids, listening to the adults around us.”

As fans know, Carly was born in 2009, and her birth and adoption were featured on Cate’s 16 and Pregnant episode. Last year, Cate and Ty’s relationship with Brandon and Teresa soured to the point of the couple cutting off communication with the ‘Teen Mom’ stars all together. Since being blocked from Carly’s life, Catelynn and Tyler have been very vocal on social media about their unhappiness with Carly’s parents, as well as adoption in general, claiming that it is “literally buying babies.”

Tyler went on to discuss how Brandon and Teresa were initially pursing only closed adoptions, but eventually agreed to an open adoption when Cate and Ty changed their mind from wanting a closed adoption to an open one. According to Tyler, Brandon and Teresa did this to make sure they didn’t lose their chance to adopt Carly.

“If you were an adult, and you knew [what kind of adoption] you wanted, I think your responsibility should have been [to say], ‘This isn’t a good fit for us, we want closed [adoption],'” he said.

“The fact that you shifted your desires to get the baby is selfish to me,” Tyler added. “Because I feel like that automatically shows that you weren’t planning on doing what we agreed upon.”

“Excuse our French but we are CHEESED off now!”

Tyler also expressed that, in his opinion, Brandon and Teresa took advantage of the fact that he and Catelynn were only teenagers at the time of Carly’s adoption.

“There were four people involved in this [adoption] agreement, and two of them were children and two of them were adults,” Tyler said, adding that he feels Brandon and Teresa should have been honest with them and disclosed that they initially wanted a closed adoption, not an open adoption like he and Catelynn wanted.

During the podcast episode, creator Jordy Cray asked Ty and Cate if they think ranting about the adoption and Brandon and Teresa on social media will make the situation between the families worse, because Cate and Ty have now involved the public.

“Our main goal for putting stuff out publicly was because if Carly has a chance of being able to see that we never stopped trying, she deserves to know that, in my opinion,” Catelynn said. “Also it’s bringing awareness to everyone who is involved in adoption…also it’s giving a voice for adopted kids. But I can see where you would think that.”

Catelynn also stated that– although Brandon and Teresa won’t tell them if it was them or Carly who wanted to cut communication with Cate and Ty— she firmly believes it wasn’t Carly who asked for it.

“Other than the online rants, parents going no-contact and all that, adoption’s pretty great, right?”

“We don’t have anything to lose, and I truly, in my heart of hearts, do not believe that it’s Carly that wants this [separation from us],” Catelynn said.

“For you as a parent to allow your insecurity and this fear to trump the best interest of [Carly] doesn’t make sense to me, and that’s also not what we wanted and [not] what we agreed upon 15 years ago,” Tyler added. “We were always supposed to be a team.”
