New Orleans Saints head coach Dennis Allen recently explained to the media that the team will be holding wide receiver Chris Olave to a higher standard moving forward. Olave, entering his third season, has already put together a promising career, going over 1000 yards in both of his first two seasons. However, now as the team’s unquestioned No. 1 receiver, it’s time to take things to another level.

This is something that Olave is embracing, as they align with his goals of becoming an elite receiver. He made that clear on a recent appearance of NFL Network’s The Insiders. Olave said that he wants to improve his game in every department, making the jump from a good player to an elite player. The key to that, according to Olave, is consistency.

"Just going into this offseason knowing that (the Saints) believe in me as the Receiver 1, I'm excited to get to work. But I'm just trying to take that next step forward and try to go from a good player to an elite player. So just trying to be consistent every day and put in the work to be able to be one of the top receivers in the game."

This statement echoes the words of Dennis Allen, who explained that he’s looking for more consistency from Olave, as well as other young players on the roster. One thing Olave has been consistent in doing in his career is surpassing 1000 receiving yards. As a rookie, he caught 72 receptions for 1,042 yards and four touchdowns. In year two, those numbers improved to 87 catches for 1,123 yards and five touchdowns.

As he works to continue elevating those numbers, a couple of things that will help are Olave’s now established rapport with Derek Carr, and the addition of Klint Kubiak as offensive coordinator. Olave told The Insiders that Kubiak has brought a dynamic offense with a ton of plays, schemes, and different styles, so he’s excited to see what the offense can do. It’ll also be exciting to see what Olave can evolve into during the 2024 season.
