The New Orleans Saints did not find many ways to get Chris Olave the ball during Monday night’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs, and one member of the star wide receiver’s family was not pleased about that.
Olave had just two catches for 10 yards in the Saints’ 26-13 loss to the Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Mo. The receiver had one target at halftime, which is when his brother Josh took to X with a simple two-word post.
“1 target?” Josh Olave wrote.
Saints quarterback Derek Carr, who exited late in the game with an oblique injury, was asked in his postgame press conference about Olave’s lack of involvement. Carr said it was not by design.
“That’s frustrating. It’s not from a lack of me wanting to throw to — I tell [the media] all the time, everybody knows I want to throw it to Chris,” Carr said, via Matt Ehalt of the New York Post. “Chris knows I want to throw it to Chris. …It’s frustrating when you grab the sheet afterwards and see that because he’s an unbelievable player and an unbelievable person and a good friend. I never want that to happen for him.”
The Saints’ offense as a whole looked completely lost against the Chiefs. New Orleans has come crashing back to earth after a historic start to the season. Head coach Dennis Allen was asked on Tuesday about Josh Olave’s tweet, and he said the offense as a whole was stagnant.
“I think we’re all frustrated with our lack of ability to get anything going offensively in that game,” Allen said.
Carr is expected to miss time with his oblique injury, so things are not going to get easier for the Saints. The frustration could mount even more for Olave and company in the coming weeks.
