CJ Stroud snubs Brock Purdy off his top 5 QB list as he picks himself over Josh Allen and Dak Prescott

After having had one of the greatest rookie seasons by a quarterback, C.J. Stroud has made a name for himself as one of the top players at the position in the league. Yesterday, he posted a story on his Instagram handle wherein he ranked the top 5 quarterbacks in the NFL right now based on their performance in the last season.

The list had some obvious names but it had a big name snubbed from it. C.J. Stroud ranked Patrick Mahomes as the best quarterback in the NFL, no surprise there- after all the man led the Chiefs to their second straight Super Bowl win. In the second place, he ranked Lamar Jackson of the Ravens, the reigning MVP’s name was no shocker either.

He ranked himself at the number 3 spot and then put Josh Allen and Dak Prescott at the 4th and 5th spots respectively. Stroud’s list caught fans by surprise because he left Brock Purdy‘s name off the list. Mr. Irrelevant led his team to the Super Bowl and was a runner-up to win the MVP award. So it is surprising to not see his name up there.

The competition amongst quarterbacks in the NFL is cutthroat and competitive

It is hard to blame Stroud for missing out on Purdy’s name. Last year was a great year for QBs and with so much talent at the position, it gets very hard to pick a top 5. All the players on his list are well-deserving of being considered as top 5 based on the numbers they put up.

With that being said, a strong argument can be made for replacing Dak Prescott’s name with Brock Purdy. If one considers team success as a metric to evaluate a quarterback, then Purdy eclipses Josh Allen and Dak Prescott. The latter ended up losing in the Wild Card round to the Packers whereas the former managed to make it through to the Divisional Round before losing to the Chiefs.

C.J. Stroud will look to improvise upon his rookie-year performance. He threw for 4,108 yards and 23 touchdowns while recording just 5 interceptions. The Texans marched all the way until the Divisional Round.

At the start of last year, the Texans were not expected to qualify for the playoffs, let alone win a game in the postseason. With the addition of Stefon Diggs on offense, Stroud has yet another weapon to throw to this season.
