Colorado Avalanche & Vancouver Canucks complete trade involving former first-round pick

Today, the Vancouver Canucks and the Colorado Avalanche made a huge trade involving a former first-round pick whose potential has been squandered.

Trade with the Colorado Avalanche: The details have emerged, big win for Patrik Allvin

According to the Canucks and various other reports, Vancouver has managed to acquire Eric Brannstrom from the Avalanche. In exchange, the Avalanche are getting Tucker Poolman and a fourth-round pick in 2025. Intererstingly enough, 20 percent of Poolman's salary will be retained.

For those who may not know, Brannstrom was a 15th overall pick for the Las Vegas Golden Knights during the 2017 Entry Draft. However, he has never really been able to hit his full potential. Now, he gets an opportunity with a completely different franchise.

'General Manager Patrik Allvin announced today that the #Canucks have acquired D Erik Brannstrom from the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for Tucker Poolman (20% salary retained) and a fourth-round pick in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft.'

This is an interesting trade that comes just days before the start of the NHL season. Only time will tell who ends up winning this deal. However, it seems like Canucks fans believe they may just have the edge right now. The Canucks are a team on the rise, and this could be that extra piece they need. Hopefully, Vancouver figures out how to use Brannstrom correctly, so that another trade isn't necessary.
