Colorado Eagles three stars of January

Dallas Stars v Colorado Avalanche

The month of January was inconsistent for the Colorado Eagles, both in terms of wins and production. Part of it was the lineup shuffle with many players moving back and forth from the Colorado Avalanche. Also a busy 12-game schedule with a sizable portion of games on the road which led to the 7-4-1 record for the month as the Eagles are in the thick of a four-team race for second place in the Pacific Division.

First Star - Jacob MacDonald - 36GP: 14G, 13A, 27P

As he heads to Palm Desert at the end of the weekend as the Colorado Eagles representative at the AHL All-Star competition, Jacob MacDonald has earned himself a star of the month as well. The seven goals for the month of January puts MacDonald at 14 for the year as he leads the team in scoring with other veterans Jason Megna, Matthew Phillips and TJ Tynan.

It’s a bit of a surprise the Colorado Avalanche haven’t gotten any games yet out of the two-year contract the defenseman signed in the offseason after giving him 74 NHL games from 2020-2023 but the season isn’t over yet and MacDonald is certainly on the radar.

Second Star - Jake Wise - 33GP: 13G, 9A, 22P

After a one-goal December, Wise was back with a vengeance. He scored six goals in the month of January. After the Avalanche have upgraded several AHL contracts to NHL deals, it’s a wonder if Wise will find himself in line for such payday himself after another strong month on the scoresheet.

Third Star - Oskar Olausson - 37 GP: 7G, 7A, 14P

It wasn’t an especially standout month for any Avalanche prospect as they all contributed to the offense by committee approach but Olausson eked ahead with five points and a couple big goals including this at the last second shown below. We’ll see if Olausson manages to survive another trade deadline in the upcoming month.
