Bachelor Nation fans got to know Colton Underwood on Season 14 of “The Bachelorette,” and he returned to our screens for Season 5 of “Bachelor in Paradise” before becoming the Season 23 Bachelor.
After his time on the Bachelor Nation shows, Colton came out as gay and married his husband Jordan Brown last May in Napa Valley, California.
Now, just after their first anniversary, the couple shared that they are expecting their first child together!
The two shared the news earlier this month and couldn’t be more excited to welcome their baby boy via surrogate this fall.
Since sharing their exciting news, Colton said they have received mostly “overwhelming support,” but he has also been flooded with negative, uneducated comments.
Alongside a video where he discusses these comments, Colton wrote, “I always struggle on how to respond to mean comments, this time I chose to screenshot, delete, and block. These are my thoughts and the comments from some uneducated people. Lead with love.”
And in his video, the former Bachelor started off by saying, “I’m going to put some comments up here for you to take a look at…”

The comments said things like, “A child is meant to have a mother and a father, nature made it this way for a reason,” “Two men isn’t creating a family, it’s basically child trafficking,” and “I’m sad for this little boy who is being raised intentionally motherless.”
Colton got candid about why these comments are so painful for him to read, saying, “I know there are a lot of people who still come to my page after watching my Netflix show to check in and see how life is for me. A lot of those individuals still remain closeted. For them to read those comments only solidifies the position that it’s not okay to be completely yourself yet. A big reason why I stayed in the closet is because I wanted to be a dad. I didn’t see the representation in the gay community and I didn’t look hard enough for it.”
He went on, “Now that I am out, it is something I want to take pride in. It’s why I talk about my fertility struggles and it’s why I talked about all of the steps and the path that Jordan and I are on to become loving parents in a two-dad home. I just want to educate and be slow with these people. I want to be patient and to understand that maybe this is their first interaction with someone who is taking this step in a same-sex relationship and building a family through IVF.”
Colton ended his video by saying that he wants to keep shedding light on how he’s growing his family and explained, “I want them to understand that it’s very intentional. We’re going through this because we both want to be dads. We both want to be parents and we both want to love our child so much and give him the best life and put a good human being into this world.”
