The former 7th-round pick was rewarded for his career day.
The praise continues to be sung for Colts cornerback Jaylon Jones as he was named the AFC’s Week 3 Defensive Player of the Week.
Jones kickstarted what would be the Colts’ first scoring drive after picking off rookie QB Caleb Williams during the second quarter for his first career interception. Jones then doubled down on his career-high day through the air by intercepting Williams a second time during the third quarter, this time with a flashy, body-contorting one-handed snag that required a toe drag to cap off the impressive play.
Jones logged 90 defensive snaps versus Chicago, which was the most of any defender in Week 3. He allowed a 31.5 passer rating, the lowest score against any cornerback who was targeted that week.
On the ground, Jones added five tackles (four solo) and one tackle for loss. According to Pro Football Focus, he was Indy’s 4th-highest graded run defender (81.5) versus the Chicago Bears in Week 3.
Through three weeks, Jones is one of two players in the league to notch multiple interceptions in one game while also becoming the 57th Colt to do so. Kenny Moore II’s historical two pick-six day during Week 9 of the 2023 season was the last time a Colt had tallied two interceptions in one game. Moore II’s performance that day was also the last from a Colts defender to earn the conference’s weekly award.
Through three weeks, Jaylon Jones has a team-high two interceptions to go with his 20 tackles (13 solo), two tackles for loss, and three passes broken up.
