Cubs' Double-A Affiliate Shifts Branding from Tennessee to Knoxville: A New Chapter for the Smokies
The Knoxville Smokies have officially stepped up to the plate, showcasing a dynamic rebrand as the Chicago Cubs' Double-A affiliate prepares to return to Knoxville for the 2025 baseball season.
For decades, the Smokies have carved out a place in the hearts of baseball enthusiasts not just as a competitive force but also as a symbol of regional pride. As they transition from the Tennessee Smokies back to the Knoxville Smokies, a refreshed identity has been unveiled that honors the past while boldly stepping into the future.
Chris Allen, president of Boyd Sports, emphasized the importance of embracing Knoxville as the team's new home.
"With the upcoming move to Knoxville, it is imperative to embrace our new home, while maintaining the Smokies brand,” Allen said in a release.
The redesigned logo incorporates Knoxville's Henley Street Bridge and subtly modifies the prestigious bear motif. Knoxville's color scheme retains its royal blue, light blue, and red, now brilliantly accented with gold.
Anticipation is abundant in Knoxville as the construction of the new Covenant Health Park progresses. This state-of-the-art facility, located at 500 E. Jackson Ave., is poised to become a central hub for sports and community events in the Old City neighborhood. The new stadium will offer a fresh venue for the Smokies and share its space with the One Knox SC soccer team, creating a year-round sports destination in the city.
