Ruff believes the Sabres team captain played his best game in the win over Dallas
The Buffalo Sabres are beginning to right the ship after a 1-4-1 start, with consecutive victories over Chicago and a 4-2 win over the Dallas Stars on Tuesday. The club has been able to chart a positive course by getting consistent offensive production at even from three of their four lines and due to solid goaltending from Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen, but through eight games the Sabres have not received the usual performance from one of their most important players, Rasmus Dahlin.
Through eight games, in spite of the Sabres team captain leading in ice time five-on-five (24:06 per game) and power-play time-on-ice (25:07), Dahlin has just two assists. Head coach Lindy Ruff indicated earlier in the month that missing the first week of training camp with an unspecified injury was a factor in his slow start, but also believes that he had his best performance in the win over the Stars.
"I thought we got a real good game, a real solid game out of him (on Tuesday), probably one of his best games, if not the best game," Ruff said. "He was involved in a lot of plays. I think (his slow start) really has to do with what he was working through, and the fact he had missed a lot of time."
